Today marks our 7th clinical day here in Nicaragua! It was a successful day for all teams today. The pediatric group went to UNICA to give a presentation to medical students on child development and tomorrow the Aldo Chavarria neurorehab group will go for another presentation on adult populations so stay tuned for more about how those went! Today we are highlighting the Nindiri Clinic group!
We have been seeing pediatric patients on Mondays and Fridays and outpatient orthopedic, post-trauma, and neurological patients the rest of the week! This clinic typically only has one physical therapist so us coming in as helped with seeing more patients the last two weeks.
The biggest project we worked on with this clinic was moving from an older, smaller clinic into a big, beautiful clinic. This clinic has become more of a wellness center for the patients and families. The physical therapist, Saturnino, has now made the pediatric area of the clinic open for parents to bring their kids whenever the clinic is open so they can use the equipment to help with continued care.
We have been happy to work with such a wide variety of patients who have been so happy and grateful for us to be there. We have been helping with treatments and home exercise programs to leave more of a lasting effect for these patients. We have been overwhelmed with the community that we have seen in the patients here and it is wonderful to see a whole community come together, get needed therapy services, and support each other.
We also got to celebrate John's, one of our student, birthday today with a cake! Overall this has been a wonderful experience for us and we are so happy to be here!
