Work Hard, Play Hard: Excursion Weekend

After a week of hard work in all of our clinic location we spent Saturday and Sunday this weekend exploring the beautiful country!

Saturday was a full day of adventure in Catarina and Granada. We started our morning Ziplining for a Canopy tour with monkeys included! We had a great time and even had some creative poses down the lines!

After Ziplining we went on a tour and learned how Pottery was made by Stalin, a local potter. Some students were able to attempt to make a pot and let's just say none of us are dropping out of PT school. After the lesson we shopped in his store and a lot of us are praying that our bags aren't over 50lbs on the way home now! We then stopped off at a view point in Catarina to look at the Lagoon de Apoyo, which is the deepest lagoon in Nicaragua!

Then we all had lunch in Granada (where Tristann another faculty member and MUDPT class of 2017 grad) and took a walking tour of the city before heading over to either Chocolate making or Cigar making classes. The cigar making class was a wonderful experience and the whole group that went there had a great time. The chocolate making class was an interesting and frankly hilarious experience. We never realized how hard chocolate making was until we spent 2.5 hours making a bar! Overall we had a awesome time and had either yummy chocolate or classy cigars to take home.

After the classes we got to take a wonderful boat ride over to Pirate Island (an island in the middle of Lake Nicaragua) for dinner. We had a delicious dinner and an even better dance party that followed. After dancing for hours we hopped on the boats and headed home for the evening.

On Sunday we spent the entire day at a beach on the Apoyo Lagoon. We soaked up some sun, swam, napped under umbrellas, ate delicious food, drank delicious drinks, and got in some good rest. Most of us are nice and burned since we are not used to the more intense sun as we are so close to the equator. We welcomed Skye and Julie, 2 more full time faculty members to help us here! We unfortunately had to say goodbye to Marcia as she has to head back home, but the pediatrics group is in good hands with Tristann!

Overall we had a great weekend with relaxing, learning, amazing food and drinks, and time spent together! We are re-charged and ready for our last week in clinic here! Also come back for more pictures later on!
