Yesterday and today we had 2 different groups go to a local university, UNICA, to work with medical students.
On Tuesday the pediatrics group went and taught about typical and abnormal motor development in children. Skye and Tristann first taught lectures and then we went into demonstration with typical kids and some of our friends from Los Pipitos came to help as well. The students were engaged and excited as they had almost no experience with children or with neurological disorders. The students were able to feel what high and low tone felt like as they had never experienced it before. The kids loved it and the students had so many great questions to ask afterwards.
On Wednesday the Aldo Chavarria Rehab group went to talk about movement analysis in adults with neurological disorder. Julie gave a lecture and then the Marymount students showed videos of some of their patients to have the UNICA students analyze and work through. The students were engaged and felt like they had learned practical skills.
We had a great experience and were excited to be able to advocate for our profession all the way here in Nicaragua!
